Regularly check and tighten the nuts and bolts of your door
Over time, a lot of different parts of your garage door can become loose. Even something as small as a screw can lead to a major problem if it isn't properly tightened in time. Remember the old proverb, "for want of a nail, the whole kingdom was lost.".
Keep the garage door’s path free and clear
Garage doors, especially the overhead type, should always be free to move unobstructed. If they end up hitting something or someone, they can become damaged, not to mention hurt or damage the obstacle. Always make sure your door's path is completely clear before you open or close it.
Realigning the sensors
Garage door sensors can sometimes become misaligned, especially after long periods of use. However, this shouldn’t be much of a problem as they can be realigned. If you notice that your sensors are not working properly, i.e. your door doesn't revere when there's an obstacle blocking its path, it may be the time to get the sensors realigned by a professional.
